{"id":904,"date":"2013-08-04T22:52:54","date_gmt":"2013-08-05T02:52:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hermanhillsknittery.com\/wordpress\/?p=904"},"modified":"2013-08-04T22:52:54","modified_gmt":"2013-08-05T02:52:54","slug":"fleece-on-the-hoof","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hermanhillsfarm.com\/index.php\/fleece-on-the-hoof\/","title":{"rendered":"Fleece on the Hoof"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The weather this summer has been crazy. \u00a0First it was rainy, then hot, then rainy, then cool, now it is hot again. \u00a0The parasites (worms- especially the barber pole worm) have been thriving, so I have been keeping a close watch (as always) on the sheep. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sheepandgoat.com\/ACSRPC\/\" target=\"_blank\">The barber pole worm (haemonchus contortus) can be deadly for a sheep<\/a>. \u00a0The sheep must be closely monitored in the spring and summer for signs of anemia which indicate the presence of the barber pole worm. \u00a0We practice <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scsrpc.org\/SCSRPC\/FAMACHA\/famacha.htm\" target=\"_blank\">FAMACHA<\/a> for controlling the barber pole worm population.<\/p>\n<p>My son and I wormed the sheep this morning. \u00a0I have one yearling wether (Wobble) who just loves the wormer. \u00a0Most sheep dislike the taste. \u00a0He loves it. \u00a0Wobble follows us around as we check the other sheep and worm them if necessary. \u00a0He is quite a character.
